Interview with
Beyond Terror Beyond Grace

** Interview conducted by Dion of
Adrenalin Metal Union - December 2007**

BEN: BTBG write songs in three different ways:

1. One member writes everything and brings it to rehearsal where it is jammed on and sometimes changed or kept. "Erosion" is an example of this, it was a song that had only minor changes from the demo whilst "Empty" had many, many revisions before the final version.
2. Alex and I get together with a few riffs written by each of us and then usually I play them in my way and then Alex helps with the arrangement.
3. Bart or Steve devise a structure for a song and Alex and I write specific riffs. Sometimes the original structure gets changed as riffs get written. A couple of songs have also been written with Steve writing the entire thing on drums and us putting riffs to it.
At rehearsal we listen to the riffs and make comments and try different things - we are a lot more open to suggestions and less precious about our own ideas than in the past. Once everyone likes the riffs we jam on the song from the start getting Steve to work out the drum patterns and tempos and seeing if the arrangement works for us. Bart and Alex often have lyrics pre-written and they work out if the words fit the new song or write new words after the song demo is done. Bart will do guide vocals with the new song at rehearsal to work out where words should be and what style.

ADRENALIN: Who do you think would win in a thumb-war extravaganza - Danzig or Glenn Benton?

ALEX: I reckon Danzig because he is a bit more, ah rotund then Benton.

ADRENALIN: Bart: Have you actually studied any philosophy-related subjects, or have you just always had a philosophical turn of mind?

BART: I’ve always thought about things that have no answers. Just questioned things really.

ADRENALIN: Alex: Do you guys have any plans to come to the US in the foreseeable future? Who would you like to tour with (just in case they’re reading)?

ALEX: We’d love to but it’s not on the horizon yet. Touring with CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN, PHOBIA or GENGHIS TRON would be cool because of the stylistic similarities. Maybe one day. Make us an offer !! For me personally touring with a band like NORMA JEAN would be rad. I really like them.
