questions answered by Patrick & Bastiaan
** Interview by Darren - May 2007 **

ADRENALIN: What are some of your influences, musically or otherwise?

PAT: Musically I’m infected by American thrash metal like Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Old-Metallica, Laaz Rockit and Death Angel but some European thrash like Hatesphere and The Haunted as well…Furthermore I think I’m influenced by a lot of non-metal related stuff as well…think about the movie “Scarface” (which I’ve seen like a thousand times) and so on.

BASTIAAN: Soloing wise I really love guys like Paul Gilbert, Vinnie Moore, Yngwie Malmsteen. As for bands and composers: Annihilator, Savatage, Forbidden, stuff like that

ADRENALIN: What types of guitar and gear do you use?

PAT: Don’t get me started…I only use Dean Guitars on stage. My coolest Dean Guitar is a very special Dean USA V Time Capsule Blueburst with one Seymour Duncan SH4 pickup at the bridge. Since I am at the Dean Guitars Artist list, Dean Zelinsky (founder of Dean Guitars) supported me in getting this guitar and signed this guitar personally. The body of this guitar was originally meant for Karl Sanders of Nile but it ended up in my hands  Furthermore I have a Dean Razorback TT, Dean Dime-o-Flame ML and a Dean Phantom V. I have a very cool LTD Dave Mustaine Fireburst as well. Currently I use different amps because after 20 years I am still searching for “The Ultimate Patrick Waltmans Kick Ass Sound”, it’s an endless quest for me J…Nowadays I use an ENGL Fireball (just that, no other effects) on stage and a Line6 Spider II at the rehearsal cage. So…if any cool amp producer can support us with that Ultimate Sound feel free to contact us and we will use and abuse this gear on stage for sure, hahaha.

BASTIAAN: For EoP my main guitar is an LTD M-200FM and my back-up is a Jackson King V. I use a Laney GH50L and , for the moment, a BOSS GT5 multi-effects processor

ADRENALIN: Please elaborate on the recording process for "I Am Your Enemy". Did you record with all digital technology?  Any crazy studio stories?

PAT: We recorded the album at The PITstudio in Weert, The Netherlands. The recording and editing of the album happened with Cubase, so we used digital technology indeed. But digital or not; you need f*ckin’ good ears to mix it like you want it to be. Also we wanted the drums to sound a bit natural, not 100% triggered. The project leader of the recording (in terms of final decisions) was Peter Neuber from the Vintagemastering Studio in Berlin (Born from Pain, Severe Torture etcetc). In the studio we are quite some serious dudes…we know that time is money for us and we are quite concentrated to do it right at once. We had to record within a certain relatively low budget and the final result is a very professional sounding CD. All guys did a great job!
