Interview with
Era Vulgaris

** Interview conducted by Heather of Adrenalin Metal Union - February 2008**

ie, all of Ireland and the UK then into Europe and then we'll have a good enough base to rely on when we hit America full on. I really hope that we'll be able to play one or two shows at least there by the beginning of 2009. With so much change in the air it's a really exciting uncertainty as to where things will go, 2007 was really great for us and 2008 is already shaping up to be the best yet so the US may not be too far off now.

ADRENALIN:  Is there a certain venue that you played that sticks in your mind? If so, can you tell us about it?

CHRIS: Any venue that has a stage you can roam about on sticks in my mind. Starting out small you spend your first few years of playing live crammed together like a metal jigsaw band trying to keep your hair out of the other guys' guitars and not stepping backwards to fall over the drum kit! When we played the DOD Festival in Ireland in 2007 the stage was a great size and by mid-way into our set there was a great atmosphere in the venue. We were first on Saturday afternoon at around 2pm or so (supporting Entombed, Candlemass and many others) but the night before we had watched Skyforger and Sabbat on the same stage. There's just something about occupying the same space as the greats that fires you up to really perform and take control of the stage, like it would be a disservice to them if you didn't try and match them!

ADRENALIN:  Are you concentrating on playing out now, or are you getting ready to produce another album?

CHRIS: Well we're training Anto in on the live set at the moment but we also started writing with him straight away too. It was important before deciding on him joining that we had attempted some song writing. Thankfully he is a fully fledged composer and making music with him is child's play. At this stage we have about five songs for a new album practically finished, so roughly half. We have a lot to fit into it so I would say that overall the average track length will be down and the diversity level will be up. We're also trying to mask the diversity at little bit, draw everything together into one sound rather than producing a disjointed affair. I think it's very possible to do that with metal and we've been spending a lot of time trying to cross styles into a new style rather than playing thrash in the style of death or jazz in the style of black or whatever. We will definitely be recording the new album in 2008, as for a release date, we can't be sure on that for a while yet.

ADRENALIN:  How has life been since the release of "What Stirs Within"?

CHRIS: Very, very interesting! An awful lot of hard work, as it's our own label that released the album. We've met a lot of very cool people, played with some amazing bands, gained hundreds and hundreds of new fans, lost two members, decided to leave the country, got a new member….yeah, it's been a very active year alright. But it's been fucking great, it was exactly
