Interview with
Erebus

** Interview conducted by Heather of Adrenalin Metal Union - April 2008**

there's a nice fusion of my tastes and what Dave brings in the great rhythms he writes.

ADRENALIN: Are there any plans of returning to the studio and recording, or is the main focus now just playing out and getting a larger fan base?

GAGE: It's hard sometimes to do both because it takes up so much time. We're in the process of writing material, and have 5 new songs pretty much done. I think we're at a point right now where we're pretty balanced with both. However, the writing will take over this summer when Dave spends a few months in China for his degree.

ADRENALIN: Does everyone have a part in the songwriting, or this that done by just one member?

DAVE: We all have a part in songwriting. This has actually occurred in a much less painful way than I anticipated. I am a total control freak, and have always been used to being the main creative force in the band. But gage, Zach and Jon have so much more talent than I have, that I feared it would be a power struggle. This has not occurred. Gage and I now do a significant amount of writing together and we are able to bounce off each other to come up with unique new ideas. Often, I will write a part and Gage will "gage-ize" it, or rather, make it his own by adding little things I would never have thought of. Jon and I are still the

main engineers in composition, but we all have a hand in riff writing.

GAGE: I'm really amazed at how fun and easy it has been to work with someone else on songwriting. My songwriting skills have never been very strong by myself, but I have the ability to play some cool riffs. Dave is great at putting everything together and making a cohesive song. I really feel that Dave has a great vision for what a song should be from beginning to end, for every part (including drums). I'm often jealous of that ability! What I really like about Zach is his ability to take a part and stylize it so well by adding a slap to it or by trying out some of his other techniques to it.

ADRENALIN: The artwork on your t-shirts depicts 2 turtles mating. What is the significance of the turtles?

DAVE: Hahaha, the turtles was a picture taken by a friend in Kenya. We loved the face on the turtle on top, like he's just totally scored. So we took the turtles and made arrows explaining that the top turtle was "Erebus" and he bottom turtle was "you," meaning that we dominate our victims with the mighty phallus of metal. It has no deep meaning. It is just a funny t-shirt that accurately depicts how you will feel after an Erebus show: fucked.

GAGE: The significance of the turtles is this: when you come to an Erebus show, prepare to be totally dominated.
