Interview with Ground Of Ruin
questions answered by Dave
** Interview by Heather - May 2007 **

living with his girlfriend, as they are expecting their first child this summer.) The relationship is the same as most "touring" bands I suppose, in that we live together, jam together and travel together, but we are all the best of friends and share the same terrible sense of humour so I think thats how we put up with each other on a daily basis!

ADRENALIN: You list many influences on the web. Are there any in particular that stand out?

Well I mentioned most of our influences in the first question but the ones that stand out the most would have to be Pantera and At the Gates, these are bands we all love and bands who have trancended all genres, as its simply great music, no more no less! Individually we have different ideas of what sounds good for us though, as we bring with us our own influences and life experiences, which all have a major impact on the sound you hear on the e.p. but these different perspectives all fit together in our songs and I think thats the mark of a good band.

ADRENALIN: Can you tell us a little bit about the metal scene in Ireland?

DAVE: This is a really common question for most Irish bands in interviews and still people can't believe what a great scene we have in this country! I would have to say our scene is probably the quickest growing in Europe, we have some signed bands who have raised the bar for us so many times like Primordial, Abaddon Incarnate and Mourning Beloveth but we also have about 20+ bands that could have just as much impact if they got the

breaks and got touring eg. Slave Zero, Condemned, Sinister Demise, Coldwar, Sorrowfall, For Ruin (recently signed to Sentinel), Mass Extinction, Old Season etc. The only problem is almost every metal head is in a band and while that gives us more variety there aren't enough people to support every band so you can't just throw a gig together with any old band and expect it to be a success, the best gigs are the ones planned well in advance and advertised properly, I would have to say thats the only real drawback at the moment. Also there are the festivals we already mentioned, Dublin Metal Events and Sentinel records along with Metalireland.com basically grabbed the scene by the scruff of the neck and put Ireeland on the metal map so to speak!

ADRENALIN: Anything you would like to add?

DAVE: Just to say thanks for the excellent review and the interview opportunity, hopefully we'll see you in the pit sometime! Check us out www.myspace.com/groundofruin -
filthy fucking death/thrash!
