LAW OF THE PLAGUE - "The War Inside" (Sinternational Records)

Short Description- Death metal
Mike's Review- Wow, do you want heavy?  This is heavy!  Law Of The Plague is here to infect the world with their virus (their music).  Their heavy music with some in-your-face angry vocals really stirs up the blood in my veins.  I would love to check out their live show!  There is so much energy pumped into their music that I would be able to finally drain my built up adrenaline by entering one hell of a mosh pit.  Look out....here comes the Plague!  www.lawoftheplague.net or www.sinternational.net Also, check out one of their songs on our MP3 page!

DISTILLED - Demo

Short Description- Alternative Nu-metal
Mike's Review- I am sure some 'zines will give this CD a better review (due to the talent of the musicians), but I cannot allow myself to praise this because I know that after I am done with this review, I will never listen to it again.  Even though the occasional heavy riff and heavy vocals spike my interest, the rest of the music belongs to a genre that I care little about.  Good luck to you.   www.distilled.net

MALEDICTA - "Eruption From Insides"

Short Description - dark metal
My Review- Awesome!  This CD is definitely worth a listen from beginning to end.  Maledicta's sound has all the elements of death metal and heavy metal with some theatrical keyboards and a whole lot of melodic atmosphere added to it.  I find it hard to believe that these guys haven't been picked up by a label yet.  There seems to b a lot of killer music emerging from the streets of Italy lately.  Check these guys out at www.maledicta-team.com

ON A DEAD MACHINE- Demo

 Short Description- I don't know
Mike's Review- Well, even my CD player didn't except this CD very much.  It took several tries before it loaded correctly in my stereo.  Then, when I finally got the chance to hear it, I was disappointed.  The best description that I can give this music is "death metal ballads".  the music is cool but not extraordinaire.  The growling vocals (which seem to be the secondary vocals in their songs) is good, but the clean vocals (the main vocals) seem to be a bit powerless and boring.  If you want to check them out, go to www.onadeadmachine.com

SHADOWSPHERE- "Dark Lands"

Short Description- Thrash/death metal
My Review- This is some death metal with 80's thrash mixed in.  the music on the CD is really good and entertaining.  I don't care much for the scream/death vocals though.  Hopefully others can see past that and enjoy the great sounds/music of Shadowspere.  www.floydestudios.pt.vu

BEYOND THERAPY- "Deadliners"

 Short Description- Hardcore
Mike's Review- This is a melodic thrashy hardcore metal band from good ol' Wisconsin.  The name Beyond Therapy fits the music well.  As you listen to the tracks on this album, it is easy to tune into the insanity that is pursued while the drums are beaten, the guitar strings are torn up, and the screaming vocalist unleashes a severe punishment to his vocal cords.  One thing is definite with this band....this band is not for those who are fans of nu-metal, alternative, or any other style of music that lacks talent and the ability to display some type of creativity.  This is a band for those who need to unleash some of that steam that has been building up in your head because you just found out that your older brother is also your dad.  www.beyondtherapy.tk

PROBOT- "Probot" (Southern Lord)
    Short Description-Metal
Darren's Review- This album is Dave Grohl's (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) creation. It has a wide variety of guest appearances (see below). Every song has its own unique flavor. I knew for a long time that Dave has a favored "metal" side to him from reading interviews when he was in Nirvana. I like the idea of this whole project. I am not a big Foo Fighters fan, but have much respect for Dave. Going from drummer and completely switching gears to a singer and guitar player, and to do it as successfully as he has is no doubt and accomplishment. Probot has a lot to offer to metal fans. There is not anything "groundbreaking" but solid enough. Depending on your favored style of vocals you may like some and not others. The strongest tracks to me are #1, Centuries of Sin (w/ Cronos), #2 Red War (w/ Max Cavalrea) Of course #3 Shake your Blood (w/ Lemmy) and #7 The Emerald Law (w/ Wino). The track that was my least favorite was #11 Sweet Dreams w/ King Diamond. I have never been a fan his (King Diamonds) vocal style. Overall a good score. Excellent compliment to any metal fans collection. Check out www.southernlord.com  for more info.

Lists of guests:

CRONOS (VENOM), MAX CAVALREA (SOULFLY, SEPULTURA), LEMMY (MOTORHEAD), MIKE DEAN (CORROSION OF CONFORMITY), KURT BRECHT (D.R.I.), LEE DORRIAN ( CATHEDRAL / NAPALM DEATH),
WINO (PLACE OF SKULLS / THE OBSESSED, ST. VITUS), TOM G. WARRIOR( CELTIC FROST), SNAKE (VOÏVOD), ERIC WAGNER (TROUBLE), KING DIAMOND (MERCYFUL FATE).

DELIAN LEAGUE- "Day of Question"

Short Description- Solid Metal
Darren's Review- Right of the bat I had HIGH expectations from this band. I was informed it would be a sound similar to IN FLAMES, and my all-time favorite, METALLICA. I was not disappointed. Right from the start this band delivered. A well produced and engineered demo. The Jersey Quintet, named after an ancient Greek formation of nations that was known for ruling the land and bringing forth a golden age or art & culture, making laws and destroying anyone who defied them. Songwriting, guitars, vocal melodies are all highlights of what Delian League has to offer. My only complaint is there are only 3 songs on the demo! Keep your eyes peeled for this band. I hope this band has the presence of mind to stay together and to move forward. The demo is called "Day of Question", and the website is www.delianleague.com. E-mail the band: info@delianleague.com

NUSE- "Hung Well" (Cornhead Records)

 Short Description- Aggressive Metal
Darren's Review- Well, I wasn't sure what to expect when I found myself face to face with this CD. Right off the bat I could tell they had a sense or humor. Seeing the list of bands they have opened for got me excited. Cannibal Corpse, Bio-Hazard, The Misfits, Type -O- Negative, Entombed to name just a few! Formed in 1993 in Jersey, they have released 5 EP's before "Hung Well". This LP has a lot to offer. Solid production throughout, very aggressive, in your face vocals, equally delivered bass and vocals. I would say I hear a hint of S.O.D. The "I don't give a fuck" attitude is in full effect. Highlights include "Story of Jed", "Blue Fish", and "Alive I'm Not". I would like to see more experimentation in the studio on the next album, only because I know they have talent and could take this to the next level. Check out Nuse at
www.nuse.tv Oh, I have not had the privilege to see them live, but if you at all get the chance, I understand it is highly recommended!

2 HEADED CHANG- "Dead City Rodeo"

Short Description- Hardcore/Death Metal
Mike's Review- Check these guys out!  The music is good and the sound quality is awesome.  Low-growling hardcore metal with some harmonic vocals added in on occasion.  I listened to this CD 5 or 6 times since I have received it and haven't come close to getting tired of it yet.  I'm sure this band will be seeing a record contract in the near future.  This is a very impressive debut release.  Check them out at www.2headedchang.com  Hell ya!  Buy the CD and crank it!

BIBLE BELT BYPRODUCT- "Southern Bled"

Short Description- Heavy Doom
Mike's Review- In an attempt to become the heaviest doom metal band to exist on this planet, the members of Bible Belt Byproduct pick up their instruments and proceed to produce some very heavy grooves of doom and metal soul.  I wish I could tell you more about the sounds that I hear right now but it is something that you need to check out for yourself.  Fans of Crowbar, Clutch, Place of Skulls....this is especially for you.  www.brawlmusic.com

BREAKNEK- demo

Short Description- Thrash Metal
My Review- This band formed in November 2000 with the intention to create killer music with the thrash/metal sound.  Their vocalist wanted to be like Linkin Park.  The rest of the band said, "No Way!" and the vocalist quit the band.  Breaknek replaced him with a vocalist with much better musical taste.  Moral of the story: Linkin Parks SUCKS!  That story alone made me respect this band before I even heard their music.  Luckily, the music is good too!  A very cool thrashy metal sound with some groove to it.  Vocals are in the vane of Sepultura.  Breaknek will be around for awhile so you should go check them out at www.breaknek.com

DEDSON- 2003 demo

 Short Description- Metal
Mike's Review- Well, some of the best CDs that I receive look the crappiest when I receive them.  And at the same time sometimes I get a CD packaged with an awesome promo package but then I listen to them and they totally suck.  DEDSON's demo is one of the worst that I have seen so far (in terms of packaging) but the sound quality is awesome and so if the music.  Every member sound talented and the music is very powerful and packed full of aggression.  As I listen to these four songs, I am reminded of early music by Machine Head ("Burn My Eyes").  A couple influences that they mention on their garageband.com website include Pantera and Faith No More.  I'll be on the look out for their debut full-length CD (if they ever release one).  Check them out at www.garageband.com/artist/dedson

EYE OF THE STORM- "Fall Into Grace"

Short Description- Heavy Rock
Mike's Review- "Eye OF The Storm is a hard-hitting rock band that possesses a winning combination of passion, power, and charisma".  Yep, I stole that straight out of their bio.  Loud powerful vocals and a creative combination of heavy riffs and drums make up the music of Eye Of The Storm.  The band will appeal to fans of Tool, Dream Theatre, Staind, and maybe even old Soundgarden.  Check them out at www.eyeofthestorm.com

HEROD- "For Whom The Gods Would Destroy" (Life Force Records)

Short Description- Melodic Heavy Metal
Mike's Review- So melodic, so peaceful, yet so heavy and so powerful.  Killer guitar solos mixed into every song.  There's definitely a British heavy metal influence and some death/thrash metal influence too.  Whatever your preference, Herod has a little bit of flavor for everybody.  Check them out at www.herod.cc or www.lifeforcerecords.com This album hits stores on January 27th.

KEYDRAGON- "Drink From The Waters Of War"

 Short Description- Gothic Power Metal
My Review- I give this band praise for their originality and overall musical concept.  They have a goth power metal sound with some saxophone and synth bass added to produce an interesting sound.  I feel obligated to mention that one of the main things that will stop me from ever listening to this CD again are the vocals.  The aren't horrible or intolerable, they just don't seem to fit them music and are not mixed well into the music.  I like the way the sax is added into the dark music though.  You can find out more about them at www.cdbaby.com/keydragon

KHANATE- "Things Viral" (Southern Lord)
    Short Description- Slow Doom Metal
Mike's Review- Not only is this doom metal, this is very slooowww doom metal.  Some noise/experimental influences are very noticeable.  Think you couldn't possible be any more depressed than you are right now?  Then check out this CD because the music makes you so sedated it could cure your high blood pressure and maybe even stop a heart attack in progress!  Let your mind sink into the deep dark voids that are formed between each note....Let the screeching horror vocals haunt you....Check out Khanate at www.southernlord.com

UNCLE LIGHT- "3"

My Review- Old-school Rock N Roll.  It's a bit too old school for me but it's good.  3 Songs of Rock N Roll.  unclelight@hotmail.com

DEAD HEROES- "Let It Ride" (Sin Klub Entertainment)

Short Description- Punk
Mike's Review- Wow, all my expectations of a good punk band have been met!  Fast, heavy, energy-packed punk.  It's hard to describe them as any more than exactly that.  This CD practically had me flying around my living room.  This is a must to check out (even if you aren't a fan of punk music).   www.deadheroes.com  They will punk the hell out of you! (yeah, I can sound cheesy sometimes).

DEFENDERS OF METAL- compilation (MIB Music)

Short Description- Metal
Mike's Review- This is a compilation released by MIB Music with 18 power metal bands from throughout the world.  Some of the bands include: Jester's Moon (USA), Moonlight Agony (Sweden), Rapid Fire (Poland), and Madog (Austria).  With every band bringing forth their best power metal magic, these 18 bands combine to make a high quality diverse compilation.  It would take along time to go over each band individually so for now, you can go check out the complete track listing and info at www.maninblackmusic.com

DYSTHYMIA- "Mind...Will...Action"

Short Description- Death Metal
Mike's Review- Technical death metal band from Italy.  With deep growling (sometimes screaming) vocals, this band keeps to the basic portrayal of a death metal band.  They are good and talented, yet probably not much variant from other bands that you have heard of the similar style.  These guys are definitely worth checking out though.   www.dysthymia.3000.it (or www.freebyte.it/dysthmia )

LAZY AMERICAN WORKERS- "Surf Lake Erie" (Sin Klub Entertainment)

Short Description- Old-school Speed Punk
Mike's Review- I have been waiting to get my hands on this album since I heard of it's possible release.  Lazy American Workers (featuring Todd Evans, also know as Beefcake The Mighty of GWAR) is an old-school "kick your ass" pun band.  There isn't a bad tune on this entire CD.  From the rock-n-roll punk sound to the guitar solos to the rapid vocals to the rhythmic riffs, this is something you should check out!  www.lazyamericanworkers.com

VAGIANTS- "Short & Hard" (Sin Klub Entertainment)
    S
hort Description- Rock N Roll Sleaze
Mike's Review- Old-school rock 'n' roll with some old-school trashy female vocals.  This is a good listen (especially if you have been craving the rock 'n' roll feel).  With songs such as "Hey, Hey, Hey", "Hotbox", "Nice And Easy", "Sugarmama", "Alright", the Vagiants aim to please.  Check them out at www.vagiants.com

ACK!- self-titled

Short Description- Experimental Heave Metal
Mike's Review- Even though I mentioned "heavy metal" in the description, I definitely want to emphasize the "experimental" part of this.  To really enjoy this CD, you must be looking for something totally different.  This isn't metal, industrial, noise, death, technical, or just experimental.  This is all of those combined into one CD, track, sound, and mentality.  The music twists from techno beats to clack metal guitaring to melodic doom, to goth industrial electronica.  Very interesting.  Check them out at www.ackrecordings.net

ASTERIUS- "A Moment Of Singularity" (Cruz Del Sur Music)

Short Description- Gothic Black Metal
Mike's Review- I love the black metal vocals and the charging, powerful, "we're coming to get you" metal sound of the music!  The clean vocals are similar to Bruce Dickinson.  They are actually my least favorite part of Asterius's sound but they usually seem to fit the rest of the music well.  Will I ever listen to this CD again?  Hell yeah!  This is some killer theatrical death/black metal.  Check them out at www.cruzdelsurmusic.com

HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE- "The August Engine Cruz Del Sur Music)

Short Description- Metal
Mike's review- In a normal circumstance, I would label this style of music as "power metal".  But, as with all good bands, there are a lot more elements added into the music (possible as an attempt to shed such label as that).  That's where 'zines come into play.  I feel I must label this band for you so you know what I am talking about.  Well, in one track they are a power metal act, then they switch to a slow elegant melodic sound, then they toggle back and forth throughout the CD (with a little more metal added in).  Four of the five members take part in the vocals so tat ads plenty of diversity to what you hear (almost over diverse at times though).  It's hard to get a true feel for the music.   www.hammersofmisfortune.com

HOLLISTER FRACUS- "SCAR"

  Short Description- Metal
Mike's Review- According to their bio, these guys are a mixture of Disturbed, Sevendust, and Godsmack.  Personally, I have had too much of that already.  Yet, I admit to liking those bands at one point.  There is some definite power to that style of music.  It IS possible to sound too much like somebody else though.  Hollister Fracus's music is cool and has some originality to it, but the vocals don't sit well with me.  Lower vocals would fit the sound a lot better.  This CD is not for me.  www.hollisterfracus.com

DAYS GONE BY- "Volition" (Hit The Pit Records)

Short Description- metal/hardcore
Mike's Review- At first I didn't care much for the raw harsh vocals a whole lot, but after listening to the CD a couple times,  they seemed to click with the excellent chunky guitar sounds and drum beats.  Overall, the CD is a good listen.  Maybe the vocals wouldn't stick out as much if they were mixed a little differently but, this is a harsh world so why not have some harsh in-your-face vocals to compliment it??  Go to www.daysgoneby.tv and give them a listen.  They have an MP3 site where you can download a song or two.

FUNERAL AGE- "Fistful of Christ"

Short Description- Aggressive, kick you in the nuts-METAL!!!!
Darren's Review- This band has REAL, I mean GENUINE talent! The guitars are full of lightning fast, hellish riffs that speed from zero to light speed and back, stopping for nothing. Full of energy and power, the other instruments only compliment one another. Vocals layer in the mix nicely, not too much or too little, and you do not need to read the lyrics to understand what they are saying. This album is a must have for any Metal fan! Hailing from the States (Seattle), this 3 piece band only has a bright future. Please check them out!.... you'll see!!! www.funeralage.4t.com

ART OF DESTRUCTION- "Under Attack" Demo (4 Song) (Sinternational Records)

Short Description- Traditional Death Metal
Darren's Review- These guys are alright. Good solid death metal. The demo isn't the best quality, but I can assure you this band is good enough, and when the right things fall in place for them, watch out!! I am reminded of Chris Barnes style of vocals, with damaging guitar riffs, and equally punishing drums. Keep your eye out for "Art of Destruction" www.artofdestruction.com or www.sinternational.net

INFECTING THE SOUL- Promo Demo

Short Description- Death Metal
Darren's Review- This demo is terrible quality. The mix is sucking major dick. Musically, not too bad. Guitars are good, drums are decent, but really sound like shit in the mix. Vocals are borderline, bass is hard to pick out. I see they are releasing a full length, hopefully they can step it up. Nothing to out of the ordinary here. More at www.infectingthesoul.com

The SEVENTH GATE- "Cheap Sex & Painkillers"

Short Description- Junk
Darren's Review- Wow, This band is BAD!! and not bad as in "Bad" but bad as in ROTTEN!!! Like the moldy lime in your fridge that stinks up the house so bad it needs to be abandoned!!!!! The guitarist and drummer have potential, however, these are possibly the WORST vocals I have ever heard, period. The sound quality was less than average, with nothing unique. It is heavy, but that does not mean much these days, anyone can be heavy. Maybe you will disagree? www.satanrock.com  for more.

A WEEK IN JULY- "Near Fatal Explosion" (Orange Peal Records)
    S
hort Description- Power pop punk
Mike's Review- "The band's sound can be described as aggressive power pop..."  I am a metalhead so I can't really get myself to say much about a power pop band.  The recording sounds good.  The music is happy and sounds similar to Green Day.  If you want to check them out, go to www.maelstrompr.com

DEXTER DANGER- "Written In Blood" (Orange Peel Records)

Short Description- Punk
Mike's Review- This is a punk band with some rock and roll influence.  They are a bit too mainstream for my blood, but the sounds quality is good and the musicians sound like they have a good future ahead of them.   www.maelstrompr.com

YOB- "Catharsis" (Candle Light Records)

Short Description- Stoner Doom Rock
Mike's Review- Grab yourself a beer (or some other mind-altering substance) and check this band out.  This is some doomy stoner rock that will send your mind into another dimension.  3 tracks on this CD for a total of 50+ minutes!  The vocals are killer and meaty bass sound is very addictive.  The guitaring...sometimes distorted...sometimes psychedelic.  They have been compared to bands such as Sleep, Goatsnake, and Obsessed.  I guess you don't really need a mind-altering substance to listen to YOB because they ARE the mind-altering substance.  Check them out at www.yobrock.com

The AGONY SCENE- Self-titled (Solid State Records)

Short Description- Heavy/aggressive
Mike's Review- Pain is what lurks within this music.  The Agony Scene is here to rip you apart.  This is yet another awesome release for Solid State.  Heavy riffs and killer drumming.  Screamin' chiller vocals.  The band never shows weakness, just some 'in your face' metal of brutality.  Fans of Hypocrisy, Carcass, blood, guts, or music with a lot of power, go to www.theagonyscene.com

FIGURE FOUR- "Suffering The Loss" (Solid State Records)

Short Description- Power death thrash

Mike's review- Wow, is somebody asked me for a list of the top bands that I have ever reviewed, Figure Four would be on that list.  All 5 members take all of their energy and just throw it at you with all they have.  Picture yourself in a giant mosh pit, the band on stage is cranking out some brutal beats and blasts, you have so much adrenaline flowing that nothing can pry you away from the chaos...   www.figurefour.org

PLACE OF SKULLS- "With Vision" (Southern Lord Records)

Short Description- Dark, doom, and groovy
Darren's Review-  I took a liking to this band right away. Being a GIANT fan of sabbath riffery and heavy sludgy guitars made me feel right at home. Ex-Pentagram and Spirit Caravan members come together to combine their skills to make me want to pick up my guitar and rock. Their blend of guitar tones, solos and vocals make this album worth checking out.  Check them out at www.southernlord.com

STIFF KITTENS- "The Raven Sessions" (Raven Black Publishing)

Short Description- Rock N Roll
Mike's Review- If you are looking for good ol' rock n roll band than this is the band to check out.  Too bad this style of rock isn't that kind of music that I get into.  It is kinda catchy though and I give them credit for the good sound quality.  Check them out at www.newblackinfo.com or www.tourdates.co.uk if you are interested.

STRETCH ARM STRONG- “Engage" (Solid State Records)

Short Description- Hardcore
Mike’s Review- The first two songs on this CD are what I would call “hardcore”. I would classify the rest of the CD as punk though (or should I say “hardcore” punk?). This band is good but it took me a couple listens before I got into it. Some of the music if unique, so that is an added bonus. BUT, what is up with that attempt to add rap in the last song? That song should be deleted from the CD. The funk sound is cool, but cut the rap crap. Overall the CD is worth a listen (especially the first half of the CD). Check them out at www.solidstaterecords.com

BODYBAG - “Butchered” (World Eater Records)

Short Description- Metal
Mike’s Review- Death Metal.  Thrashy grind death metal with crunchy guitars, blasting drums, deep bellows/growls.  That’s how death metal is suppose to sound.  Death is flowing through their veins, out their bloody fingers, and all over their instruments.  Want good death?  Check out www.bodybag666.tk or www.worldeaterrecords.com

The DEL TORROS- “Hot Damn!” (Suavecitas Records)
    Short Description- Punk rock
Mike’s Review- The Del Toros is an all-girl punk rock group from Portland, Oregon.  Just because I mentioned this is an all-girl band, does that give them special treatment?  Of course not and these girls don’t need it.  Their punk sound with rock and metal twists will take over your brain and make you move.   www.thedeltoros.com

LIFE OF AGONY- “River Runs Again: Live 2003”
    Short Description- Metal
Mike’s Review- Yep, they are back. Most of the younger audience (and some of the older) may not have heard of LOA before. The last time I heard a song by these guys was in 1995. They released this live double CD from a recent tour in attempt to get back into the scene. The sound quality is good and they sound like they still have the spunk that got them in the spot light 8 years ago. The group cites collective influences such as Radiohead, Metallica, Pink Floyd, and Black Sabbath. If you are a LOA fan, check out this CD. Otherwise, you can find out more at www.lifeofagony.com

MR. SLATE- “American Star”

Short Description- Grunge Rock
Mike’s Review- This is rock with some groove/grunge riffs and beats to it. the lyrics are of the rock/rap style. the over all sound is good and interesting. Check them out at www.mrslate.com. If you are ever in Wisconsin, check them out live. It sounds like their live show would be worth seeing.

PALE EXISTENCE- “Hate Demo 2003” (World Eater Records)

Short Review- Satanic Death
Mike’s Review- With their death metal as dark as they can get, these guys use their instruments and vocals to send the tainted sound of Satan right into your head. Pounding drums, low growls, brutality. Check them out at www.paleexistence.tk or www.godisdeadproductions.cjb.net

The THESSALONIAN DOPE GODS- “High Idol Pulsation” (Sin Klub)

Short Description- Messed UP
Mike’s Review- Well, I wanted to come up with something cool for TDG’s description but my mind is confused. I suppose I could call them “rock” but that wouldn’t come close to describing them. “Messed up” better describes the music. These guys definitely like to experiment with different genres of music. When I listen to this CD, I hear punk, industrial, grunge, rock, techno, Powerman 5000, Rob Zombie, Manson, GWAR, and more. This is art that has been created to promote creativity within the mind and soul. Are you curious? Satisfy the curiosity by going to www.sinklub.com and check them out.

ZERO BY NONE- “Impressions”

Short Description- Rock
Mike’s Review- Rock ballads, emotional rock, sappy rock, and stuff. The music has some cool riffs and is nice and crunchy at times. The rest of the CD bores me. The vocals put me to sleep. There’s no adrenalin flowing here. Some people may love this CD, not me. The production is excellent though, so I give them credit for that. www.zerobynone.com

ANGELRUST- self-titled

Short Description- Metal
Darren's Review- This album has alot to offer. Aggressive & flowing guitars, clean and growling vocals make for an great combo. Melodies are layered nicely to combine for a unique atmosphere. Production is decent as well. The band is talented in throwing enough together to make it work, with elements to stand out from the rest. Check out www.angelrust.com for more.

HELVIS- "Reverence The Sacrifice" (Loudspeaker Records)

DOG FASHION DISCO- "Committed To A Bright Future" (Spitfire Records)

Short Description- Circus Metal
Mike's Review- The first description I ever heard from this band is "circus porn metal" but it looks has been shortened to "circus metal" for now.  This is a band for those who are seeking something NOT mainstream and who's NOT like everybody else.  They like to rock, headbang, growl, get dark, get happy, and pretty much do whatever they feel like doing.  This is a band that everybody should check out (unless you are happy with the mainstream junk that is played on most radio stations).  Some influences are: Zappa, Mr. Bungle, Tool, and Beer.  Check out their interview for more info or go to their website at www.dogfashiondisco.com

THE GREAT KAT- "Wagner's War"

Short Description- Speed Metal
Mike's Review- This is a highly talented guitarist/violinist who likes being a dominatrix and playing classical music really heavy and fast.  The only downfall is that in result to her playing the songs so incredibly fast, this 7-song CD is only 11 minutes long.  nonetheless, this guitar/violin shredding goddess is here to take the throne and let you bow to her.  If you are into speed metal or chicks in dominatrix outfits, go to her website at www.greatkat.com

JEZABEL- "Legiones Del Sur" (Cruz Del Sur Music)
    Short Description- Power Metal
Mike's Review- This is a power metal band from Argentina.  the music is very entertaining.  If some good power metal is what you are looking for, look no further.  Some people will say that all power metal bands sound the same, but as you listen to the music of Jezabel, out notice the talent and excellent composition in their music that some bands lack.  Check them out at www.cruzdelsurmusic.com

SARAGASHUM- "The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement"

Short Review- Instrumental Metal
Mike's Review- Did you ever want to listen to a CD just to hear the music?  Well, this band wants to entertain you without the effects of vocals.  Some instrumental bands try to do that, but most do not succeed.  With some creative music and tight sound, Saragashum managed to fill this album with 5 interesting tracks that'll keep you entertained for awhile.   www.saragashum.com

LOW TWELVE- "Unfit For Human Occupancy"/Maggot Ridden Rotten Movie

Short Description- Brutal Metal
Mike's Review- This is a CD/DVD combo.  One disc is a CD that contains 7 songs of brutal metal music with deep growling vocals.  The other is a DVD.  It is their home video "Maggot Ridden Rotten Movie" which is filled with live footage, interview footage, groupie/boobie footage, more live footage, and the video for "Lines Drawn".  Low Twelve, the founders of Heavy core (who you will hear me mention at times), pack a lot of balls into this CD/DVD combo.  They are ready to take over.  Witness the brutality.  www.lowtwelve.com or www.heavycore.org

STEEL GLORY- "Wayward Sons Of The Beast"

Short Description- Metal
Mike's Review- High vocals with crunching energetic guitars are found in this Singapore metal band.  The music fits together well.  There is some noticeable Sabbath and Iron Maiden influences in there.  From what I read on the inside cover, the vocalist on this album is only temporary.  The vocals are OK but whoever mixed/produced this album could have done a little better job at blending the vocals in with the music.  They are overpowering.  Overall the music is good and the vocals have potential.  Contact them at hauntedmelody@hotmail.com

WEHRWOLFE- "Godless We Stand" (Magik Records-
a division of Cleopatra)

 Short Description- Black Metal
Mike's Review- Heavy, brutal, black metal coming straight from the guts of hell.  The music is dark and atmospheric yet full of power and rage. Three of the members are formerly of the band, Darkmoon.  They now reformed with a new vocalist and more evil flowing through their veins. Wehrwolfe will be at Milwaukee Metal Fest XVII this year and their new album will be released August 12th.  Check them out at www.cleopatrarecords.com  or www.wehrwolfe.com

EVOLOTTO- "Sixers" (Sin Klub Entertainment)

Short Description-Metal w/punk influences
Mike's Review- This music is primarily heavy metal music with some punk craze added in.  Powerful (and sometimes screamin') vocals, heavy riffs, and rapid drums.  Overall, their music has an appealing sound to it.  I can picture a very energetic mosh pit at their shows.  Check them out at www.sinklub.com

The GEMINUS SECT- "Gemination" (Sin Klub Entertainment)
    Short Description- Industrial Metal
Mike's Review- Industrial rock metal music.  Every song on this CD is worthy of a listen.  You can't really tell what this album is all about by listening to just the first couple of tracks.  The music progresses as the album goes on.  The songs have the electronica fast flow to them that keeps you listening to them.  I'm really digging this album.  I'm sure we'll hear of Geminus Sect in the future.  You can check them out at www.sinklub.com

GENEROUS MARIA- "Command Of The New Rock" (Abstract Sounds)
    Short Description -  Heavy Rock
Mike's Review- This is some stoner/rock n' roll from Sweden.  Pumped full of energy, Generous Maria delivers 10 tracks of solid rock filled with guitar chunk, energetic beats, and a supercharged feel.  You can find them at www.riffrock.com/generousmaria

LEADFOOT- "We Drink For Free" (Abstract Sounds)
    Short Description- Heavy Rock
Mike's Review- The vocals on these rock n' roll/party crazy tracks are provided by Karl Agell (formerly of Corrosion of Conformity).  The music has the southern rock feel to it and tends to stick in your head hours after you quit listening to it.  If you feel like rocking or drinking yourself silly, go to www.leadfoot.net to check them out.

The PB ARMY- "Inebriates, Equirocators..." (Sin Klub Entertainment)
    Short Description- Stoner-Pop-Metal
Mike's Review-  Stoner-Pop-Metal?  That's what their promo sheet said.  I guess that pretty much sums it up.  There's a lot of heaviness with some stoner-sludge added in.  the pop sound shows up here and there.  A couple tracks seem to have a little punk feel to them also.  When I listen to this CD, I can picture some dude (that is far too drunk to think) standing in front of the stage bobbing his head uncontrollably while playing air guitar and bellowing out the words to every song.  Then again, I see one of those at EVERY show I go to (ignorance is bliss).  Check these guys out at www.sinklub.com

ZEN BAR FIGHT- Self-titled
    Short Description- Prog Music
Mike's Review- "The CD cover says "Satan's Favorite! Prog w/influences from around the map".  The band does everything possible to stay away from the norm.  A couple distinguishable influences are King Crimson and Mr. Bungle (there are a lot of others though).  Feel the grove, daze into space, fall into a trance. You will not be the same when you are done listening to this CD.  You can check them out at  www.geocities.com.zenpapabear

DOMINIONS OF OUR ENDEAVOR - "Behold The Propylon"

Short Description- Black Metal
My Review- Evil.  Black metal style.  Evil. Wicked guitaring.  Evil. Low, sadistic growl vocals.  If you are prepared to sell your soul (or just want to check them out), go to www.dominionsofourendeavor.com

D.R.I. - "Dealing With It" (Beer City Records)

Short Description- Punk
My Review- This is some good old thrashy punk music by D.R.I (their peak popularity was in the late 80's).  This is a compilation of a lot of older albums put onto one CD.  Very cool.  Whether you've heard of them before or not, you should check them out at www.dirtyrottenimeciles.com I heard there may be a new album in the works.

ONE STEP BEYOND- "Life Imitates Art"

 Short Description- Metal

My Review- Most of this CD is filled with fast metal beats (drum machine) and deep growls for vocals.  ONE STEP BEYOND likes to experiment throughout the CD with different combinations of styles such as death vocals with ska music or funk/metal.  I like to give bands a lot of credit for experimenting with stuff like that (regardless of whether or not they are serious about their music).  I think it might take me back to a dream I once had that Chris Barnes took over as vocalist of Metallica.  Anyway, if you want some fast grind metal growling music with some other stuff added in, check them out.  You can contact them at gligster666@hotmail.com

PHARAOH- "After The Fire" (Cruz Del Sur Music)

Short Deescription- Power Metal
My review- The sounds of Iron Maiden will live on forever.  This band takes the European/ Iron Maiden sounds and adds in a little of their own thrash metal style to create their version of power metal.  Entertaining CD.  Check them out at www.cruzdelsurmusic.com

SUNN O))) - "White 1" (Southern Lord Records)

Short Description - Experimental
My review- After listening to this entire CD (3 tracks for a total of 58 minutes), I would say that this band would appeal to fans of experimental noise, ambient/doom, and Bjork.  It is very experimental, very cool.  Here is a quote from their promo sheet that I liked.  "The poser of SUNN O)))'s monolithic sub'harmonic guitar drones is nothing less than verifiable fact of physics.  Played at the proper volume, the group's recordings have the ability to shake building foundations, cure (and cause) headaches, elicit bowel movements, and inspire states of meditative clarity and bliss."  Check them out at www.southernlord.com

TOADLIQUOR- "The Hortator's Lament" (Southern Lord Records)

 Short Description - Doom/Sludge
My Review- This is a slow sludgy doom band.  The CD is a compilation of their cult "S/T" LP and some rare/unreleased tracks.  The music is a slow trance and the vocals are low screams of pain and anger bellering.  Cool CD.  Some of the music reminds me of the band GRIEF that I reviewed 6 months ago.  Check them out at www.southernlord.com

VERBAL ABUSE- "Just An American Band" (Beer City Records)

 Short Description- Punk
My review- This is some thrashy angst punk.  The first 12 tracks are a re-release of an LP of theirs and the last 14 tracks are from a live show they played in 1984.  This is OK punk music but I'll probably never listen to this CD again.

ARVINGER- "Helgards Hall"
    Short Description- Black Metal
My Review- This is an excellent Black Metal project from Norway.  The melodic theatrical darkness will cast a shadow of darkness upon you once you experience the music of Arvinger.  Hauk plays the drums, guitars, bass, and keys.  Djerv adds his presence by performing the vocals.  Several guest musicians add in occasional female vocals to help create a very solid black metal sound.  Check them out at www.arvinger.com

ETERNA- "Terra Nova" (Crash Music)
    Short Description- Melodic Heavy Rock
My Review- I would place this band along the ranks and likes of Dream Theatre and other well-produced acts of the similar style.  The songs have a well-tuned heavy rhythm and melodic sound with powerful vocals to complete their style.  Check them out at www.crashmusicinc.com

RASPATUL- "Menghitung Ajal"
    Short Description - Death Metal
My Review - This speed death metal band from Singapore is getting their name passed through the music industry with this 5-song EP.  The music is similar to an average death metal sound but there is some killer guitaring and painful screamin' vocals.  It gets you pumped.  You can e-mail them at war_lord21@hotmail.com

SOFA KING KILLER- "Lust Crime and Holiness" EP (At A Loss Recordings)
Short Description - Heavy (Stoner) Rock
My Review - Besides the cheesy name, this band is pretty damn good.  This is a 4-song EP that was released to promote their upcoming full-length.  The music is stoner, heavy, blues, metal with a lot of presence to it.  What I mean by presence is that when you hear their music, you don't just say "oh, a stoner band" and then toss the CD in the corner.  This music sticks with you and stays in your CD player for awhile.  Bring On the full-length!   www.stonerrock.com/sofakingkiller

TWELFTH GATE- "Summoning" (Crash Music)
    Short Review- Metal
My Review- This metal act hails from my home state of Wisconsin.  Their heavy riffs, killer drumes, and (European-style) metal vocals complete this band and brings forth their ability to conquer their goals and spread their name throughout the scene.  Check the out at www.twelfthgate.com

UNEARTHLY - "Infernum - Prelude To A New Reign: (Crash Music)
    Short Review- Black Metal
My Review - This is a well-produced and well-recorded black metal CD.  The vocals are eerie, screamin', and may even send shivers down your spine.  The music captures your soul and sells it to the devil.  If you would like to join their wicked parade of darkness, check this band out www.unearthlyhorde.com

ACID APE- "Fleshspa" (Lunasound Recordings)
    Short Description- Rock
My Review- This Swedish rock band captures the same lo-fi sound found in The Melvins, Unsane, and Jesus Lizard and twists it to make their own bad ass rock music.  If you are tired of listening to over-produced commercialized albums, then this is a good CD for you.  Better check them out because Acid Ape is going to be around for awhile.
www.acidape.com or www.lunasoundrecording.com

BACKDRAFT- "Here To Save You All" (Lunasound Recordings)
    Short Description- Stoner Rock
My Review- Stoner Rock, southern rock, groovin' get-your-body-moving rock.  Similar to the bands Corrosion of Conformity and Soulmotor.  This is one of those bands that are awesome to see live because it would be difficult to go to their show and not to have your body move uncontrollably.  The whole band sounds very talented.  You can check them out at www.backdraft.web.com or www.lunasoundrecording.com

MASTIC SCUM- "Scar"
    Short Description- Grindcore Death
My Review- This Austrian death band has in-your-face growling vocals and fast heavy music with a catchy groove to it.  It grooves along and then it speeds to a hardcore blasting speed. Talented band and a killer growl.  You can check them out at www.masticscum.com

SIR HEDGEHOG- Self-titled (Lunasound Recordings)
    Short Description- Rock
My Review- The promo sheet suggests that this band will appeal to fans of Fu Manchu and Rush.  The groovy bass lines and stoner metal sound is great, but the vocals don't appeal to me very well.  Sometimes I'm not the greatest at saying who sounds like who but to me this band sounds like Bruce Dickenson trying to cover a Black Sabbath song.  You can check them out at www.sirhedgehog.com or
www.lunasoundrecording.com
