Sigh Band
Interview with
Sigh

** Interview conducted by Rob of Adrenalin Metal Union - April 2008**

ADRENALIN: There must be a fairly high demand for SIGH here in the states judging by your recently booked headlining dates coming up in September (which we will be attending, by the way, in St. Paul, MN on 9/22).  Do you feel you've always had a pretty decent following here or is it maybe because you've become so eclectic in your musical approach as of late?

Hangman's Hymn Cover artMIRAI: Well, it's hard for us to tell, but I guess Hangman's Hymn and the label's promotion for it helped a lot to spread our name in the US.  This is going to be our first full US tour, so we're truly looking forward to it!!

ADRENALIN:  I read that you will be working with a real string quartet and brass section for your next full length CD.  I think these exact sort of collaborations are what makes SIGH really stand out from the masses.  Have you started this process and if so how challenging has it been so far?

MIRAI: I'm still arranging the orchestra parts, and I must say it is really touch. If I just have to program them on the PC, I don't have to care how difficult the passage could be as it's a PC that plays it.

I'm assuming that we'll have to go through a real tough process this time. Everything from arranging to recording should take much more time this time.

ADRENALIN: You'll be releasing a six song Venom tribute coming up this fall coinciding with your fall tour of the US.  Obviously Venom appears to be a major influence on the band, but what are some of the other bands that have inspired you as you've grown as a band?

MIRAI: As far as metal bands go, Celtic Frost, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Mercyful Fate, Deathrow, Whiplash, and so on. All the music we listen to more or less influences us, but definitely metal from the 80s is the biggest influence on us along with classical music.

ADRENALIN: Who, if anyone, impresses you musically these days?

MIRAI: I'm getting too old to keep up with new stuff, but I love Municipal Waste and 3 Inches of Blood. They definitely have great metal vibes.

ADRENALIN: How do you all find the time to express your creativity in your side projects such as Mirai Kawashima's involvement in Necrophagia? Are these serious endeavors or are they meant to just be projects and nothing more?

MIRAI: I've been always serious about anything I'm involved in regardless from whether it's just a project or not. However I feel that I can't stretch myself thinner and I have to concentrate on Sigh more to make it productive, I've decided not to spend on those projects now.
