ADRENALIN:
Being from Flint, MI, you are one of the founding bands of the Flint
Death Squad. Can you tell me more about this group?
[Mitch] The FDS is at the core, a brotherhood of extreme bands. It's goal is to help each other instead of stabbing each other in the back. We help each other out and anyone we can in the squad or not. The guidelines to the FDS are simple. You have to have integrity, help each other out, and be a working band. The squad doesn't have anyone in it who is taking advantage of the other bands. None of us think that we're better than anyone, we are just here amongst brothers having a blast. We'll play with any band, and have a blast doing it. [Drew] (It's a) brotherhood of bands helping each other reach the same goal. We realized that most bands are two-faced assholes that only want to further themselves by destroying others. We, on the other hand, believe that through teamwork and brotherhood we can further our career while helping others further theirs. [Deano] I first hit the Flint music scene in the mid 90's while I was still in high school. Back then, Flint was all (real) hard-core and ska. I used to see bands like Absence, Army of Juan, Face Full of Nails, The Suicide Machines, and all these bands were all about each other. Bands that came out to see other bands' shows even if they weren't on the bill. In the early 2000's there was absolutely NO unity in our scene. We just had all these fuckin little mall geeks trying to rap over absolutely God-awful nu-metal and they were all cutting each others' throats.

ADRENALIN: Who are some of the other bands that are apart of this? [Deano] Girlscout Handgrenade (Industrial Chaos Metal) and I Decay (Melodic Death Metal) had a big hand in starting the FDS. We've also got Foundation of Power (Southern Thrash Metal), Selfless (non-gay new metal), and HI8US (Metalcore), and the Bukkake Brothers (Technical Southern Style Thrash). ADRENALIN: I read in a myspace blog that one of your band members is moving to the West Coast and the rest of the band will eventually follow him. When will the band be complete again? [Gabe] Yeah, when indeed. [Mitch] Gabe and Deano are heading out to better themselves. The rest of us will be out there ASAP. [Deano] Yup, Gabe took off! (laugh) Yeah, he left about a month ago, and I'm going to follow in about 2 weeks. Then the rest of the guys are coming in 07. ADRENALIN: Have you played out on the West Coast before? I am assuming you have hopes of attracting some label interest out there. [Mitch] No, but moving there will give us a fresh start and a burst of inspiration. [Deano] Never even been to the West Coast. But, I am going |
